Betfred Championship Preview | Round 4

It’s Round 4 of the Betfred Championship! Five teams remain unbeaten, whilst five are still searching for their first win.

Oldham and Widnes will meet under the Friday Night Lights to kick things off, before Saturday’s action sees Dewsbury host Goole.

The Rams will be looking to continue their excellent start to the season in front of a home crowd, whereas Scott Taylor's Vikings will be determined to bounce back from last week’s defeat to Midlands Hurricanes.

The sides have only ever met twice before, and it’s currently one apiece.

There were close contests too, with Goole winning 14-20 in June on the road last year, before Dewsbury claimed a 16-22 victory on their away day last March.

Sheffield will take on the current table toppers, Barrow. The Eagles beat the Raiders twice last year and are now searching for their second win of 2026.

Can they overcome a strong Barrow side?

Then, there are five ties on the Sunday.

Midlands and Batley Bulldogs will meet for the first time in their history, whilst Keighley and Whitehaven will go head-to-head.

Having both suffered defeats in Round 3, the teams should be ready to go again at Cougar Park.

A tasty clash awaits between Newcastle Thunder and North Wales. Thunder are back on home soil for a second successive week and are aiming to keep tabs on the top three.

Thunder are hot on their heels in fourth place and could climb the ladder if Barrow, Rochdale or Dewsbury were to endure defeat this weekend.

Did you know that North Wales' Josh Eaves has scored tries in Crusaders' last three meetings with Newcastle? Will he be the difference in Round 4?

Elsewhere, an unbeaten Rochdale entertain a winless Hunslet. It’s a tie between two teams at the opposite side of the table, who will play each other for the first time since 2024.

A high flying London Broncos are in Swinton on Sunday and have won their last 14 meetings with the Lions.

That said, their last two encounters ended up being thrillers (6-12) and (16-14).
